Pipeline UXO ID&C Project
EODEX contracted to oversee identification, removal and disposal of a marine unexploded ordnance (UXO) at live gas pipeline.
EODEX was delighted to be contracted directly by a subsea data service company on behalf of an energy major to oversee the identification, removal and disposal of a marine UXO located adjacent to a live gas pipeline
Scope: EODEX was an integral part of the project team required to execute the UXO relocation and disposal of a cUXO - working closely with vessel, WROV and infrastructure owners to identify the correct strategy, execution and programme management for the project to reach a successful and safe conclusion.
Execution Model: EODEX had to first confirm that the target was indeed a cUXO or otherwise. EODEX then had to devise a safe clearance protocol taking into account the need to protect the gas pipeline. Once safely relocated from the pipeline, the cUXO was subject to safe efficient disposal and debris clearance.
Results & Safety: EODEX and the wider team successfully completed the scope of work with zero incidents. The project was well planned with a one-team delivery model in operation from commencement. Lines of communication were open, transparent and efficient. Everyone was satisfied with the complete operation which resulted in no impact to client infrastructure.
Point of note: The UXO was tightly lodged under a gas pipeline which remained live throughout the operation. Absolute certainty on the UXO type was critical to the proposed removal strategy. The one-team delivery model was essential to the success of the whole operation, and this remained the stakeholders main priority.
