What Was Involved

As part of the overall package, EODEX chartered the Glomar Wave from Helix ESG with a survey and positioning package from Andrews Survey. The WROV capability was provided to us by FilmOcean in Aberdeen.

EODEX investigated a total of 273 individual target locations with 83 confirmed UXOs identified. These included a large number of Naval projectiles, anti-submarine weapons, sea mines, and airdropped bombs. During the UXO disposal phase, the UK regulator (Marine Management Organisation) did not require a bubble curtain to be used at any time as we were applying our proven low-order deflagration technique.

Challenging Environment

Of particular note was the successful clearance of a 2,200lb LMB (Luftmine B) aluminium sea mine. This was the first instance of an LMB mine being cleared commercially using Low Order deflagration.

Solution

All 83 UXO were successfully neutralised, without any detonation occurrences, with the scrap metal remnants recovered for onward recycling.
